I’m Alex Pinto, a jazz guitarist from the US, currently in India on a Senior Nehru Fulbright Research Grant studying Carnatic music at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM) outside of Chennai. I’m conducting research on ways to integrate Carnatic approaches to melody, rhythm, composition and performance into modern jazz. My aim is to create new hybrid music content that jazz practitioners/schools can adopt into their own courses of jazz studies. This site will include ways for musicians to explore Carnatic melodic, rhythmic, compositional and performance concepts through written, audio and visual content.
